#VM_view – Book review – When Life Shortchanged Me – updated 100923

Caveat – This is my own book and hence I am the interested party, so I will not rate it, however I have attached the screenshots of reviews that readers have put up on amazon, good reads and even on my blog. The idea of this write up is just to leverage on response I have been getting for other books’ reviews that I post and share a perspective of my own book with you all. There is no compulsion that you should go and buy the book, but then I consider this as test of writing and how far it’s endorsed by my readers on whom I rely as my brand ambassadors. Those who’ve read it can forward this review to their connects and those who are contemplating to read can review their decision basis this write up

#VM_from the writer’s desk – sample chapter (7)- WLSCM – when a star trader enters a Baniya Company’s office – what happens and what is the La Prairie connection ?

Both my books have been a cocktail of markets and romance and this one is special. I had been thinking of giving a chapter as sample that acts as a curtain raiser to a different twist. had been trying to find out one and then while reading I came across this chapter and this is interesting because it has a mixed reference and raises two questions –

  1. What is a global star trader doing at the office of a Baniya company that too in NCR and not Mumbai
  2. What is the La Prairie connection – this is special, as the La Prairie might be relatively common these days but in the era that the story is conceptualised no one could dream about that

Overall the book is unfolding a new twist with every chapter and what I’m seeing around in my life these days I feel I’ve already written in the book and to an extent that is scaring me even, but then as I say – we are living a pre written script of life on which we’ve no control

#VM_from the writer’s desk – sample chapter (2) – Rewards of a Shortchanged Life

Have been sitting at home for almost two weeks now. At times you need a brake and when you tend to linger it on, nature has it’s own way, and compels you by putting you on the bed. My situation is such and even here few readers want to know what all is there in my books. This one is to those readers, one more sample chapter from ROSL and this talks about something different.

#VM_from the writer’s desk – how & when ROSL & WLSCM were conceptualised and a comparitive of two

If the hidden talents had been known and respected before, life would have been different for many

Caveat – this is a direct promotion of my own works, ‘Rewards of a Shortchanged Life’ (ROSL) released in July 2021 and ‘When Life Shortchanged Me’ (WLSCM) released this year in July. As I’ve said earlier in some of my previous posts, I’ve not engaged any agency or distribution network to promote my work; my readers are my ambassadors and I’m relying on their benevolence to spread a word about my writing. If you find a value add in my periodic write ups and wish to see the extension of same in form of a book in a fictionalized set up, I urge you to pick up any of my books and figure out, if I’ve been able to come upto your expectations

Background for this post

During the week gone by I had a few discussions with a few readers who’ve read both ‘ROSL’ and ‘WLSCM’ and they asked me a few questions and I’m reproducing them here with answers ending the note with a comparative about two books and the characters that are there

Somewhere the two books seem to be projecting a real story. Is it actually so?

Swearing in the name of God let me make a confession, I had a dream since 1994 when I had just got out of school that I want to write something and had conceptualized the broad contours of the stories but I didn’t have command over language.

Professional angle, the bond market and equity market were missing at that time as I also didn’t know much about them, but the personal angles had been worked out and they’ve been narrated exactly on the lines I’d conceptualized with zero deviation, except for the ending chapter of ROSL.

Though I don’t owe any explanation to anyone, still trust me the stories had been conceptualized in 1994 – 96 and during 1997 I had narrated both these stories to a friend of mine and his verdict was – WLSCM is a stronger script than ROSL [at that point in time even the titles were not decided]

Now if I’ve got to live these lives, as is often alleged, or someone somewhere has lived, I feel readers should appreciate my ability to foresee the future with precise accuracy

I can simply second the thoughts that if my hidden talents would have been known and respected before, life would have been different for many people. Let me also add – abhi bhi der nahin hui, and why do I say so

In WLSCM, I’ve created the story on one tagline “we are living a pre written script of life on which we’ve no control” and no matter how much we live in denial we just can’t ignore this fact. छोटी सी ये दुनिया पहचाने रास्ते हैं….

I hope I’ve managed to answer the question in my own way and people have understood it as well. Whether you love me or hate me, you just can’t ignore the reality and you know I can project reality to perfection.

Can an individual get to live such a grand life and what is the message you intend to convey through the two main characters?

Some people do get to live the life I’ve shown with two main characters and at times you don’t know some of the side characters also get to live, but yes in reality not everyone gets to live such a life – the life of a virtual godfather.

Critics can say it’s an attempt to glorify someone, more specifically the writer himself in the name of main characters so let me make a confession here. Probably since it’s a work of imagination I am ready to take the criticism that I have tried to glorify or maybe a part of this life I wanted to live.

However reality is far different from what is in these books, in the lives of main characters I’ve added too many achievements through pick and choose from various points in time, and through stories I’ve spun through the incidents in the books I wish to give a few messages that one should imbibe in life.

Urge the readers to read it as a work of entertainment, with learnings about market and lessons of life. And with this let me give a brief tabular comparative of the two works

#VM_from the writer’s desk – sample chapter (3) – When Life Shortchanged Me

I had put in a caption as my status update today – What is TIE? and few readers called back to check – is this a connotation with being a suitable boy in a TIE. The answer is no. I never wanted to share this as a sample chapter but realising the curiosity readers have developed I am sharing a part of it

Do we find Vicky actually short on Trust Integrity and Ethics or is it that he’s failed to convince people about his genuineness and thus become a fall guy?

Why I didn’t want to share? – this is the ultimate climax just before the story takes a penultimate twist and I wanted it to reserve for the readers to read till this point. But then as usual I’m good at flip flops and thought through it before releasing the snippet, this is not revealing any other part of the story and from that perspective it’s safe to share the snippets here

What is TIE – Trust, Integrity & Ethics. One chapter in the book has a focus on something which is the basic principle I’ve imbibed in life. Whether people are willing to believe me or not, these are the ethos I’ve chosen to live with
